Erste Sitzung: Do 20.04.2017
Themenfolge:
1. Semantics (20.4. - 11.5.)
2. Textlinguistics and Discourse analysis (18.5.)
3. Variation, Languages for Special Purposes and Translation (1.6., and 22.6.,)
4. Preparing for seminar presentations and papers (8.6..)
5. Properties and Universals of Translations: product and process-based methods (the example of Croco) (29.6.)
6. Textual cohesion in translation: multivariate statistics on frequencies of devices and chains (the example of GECCo) (6.7.)
1. Grammatical metaphor: explicitness, density and directness of the semantics-to-grammar- mapping 2. Applications of logic-based semantics to natural language 3. Semantic roles: theoretical motivation, applications and difficulties in operationalization (semantic verb complementation, word-net, frame-net etc.) 4. Semantic features and classification: theoretical motivation, applications and difficulties in operationalization (ontologies, word-net, frame-net, DWDS, semantic dictionaries in general etc.) 5. Sense relations: theoretical motivation, applications and their role in lexical cohesion 6. Distributional Semantics
7. Chains of co-reference and their role in distinguishing registers/ source- and target-texts 8. Substitution and Ellipsis: identification, classification and English-German differences 9. Conjunctive relations and the logico-semantic structure of text and discourse 10. Lexical cohesion and cohesive chains in different languages, registers and modes (translations or originals)
11. Identification and translation of national, regional or social varieties of English or German 12. Register analysis and language for special purposes 13. Taxonomies, ontologies, and terminology engineering
14. Properties of translated texts and the question of translation universals 15. Product- vs. process-based methods in research on translation
16. Statistical methods: univariate vs. multivariate statistics 17. Building and querying a corpus
18. Selected topics from last year‘s lecture (translation studies, contrastive linguistics, syntax, semantics) can be chosen if required.
