This workshop is designed to help English language learners approach the writing process by incorporating generative AI. As this is quite a vast and sometimes sensitive topic, this workshop will be split into two separate units. The first will start with the basics of what plagiarism is and best practice approaches to using AI generated text. After these boundaries are established, we will focus on English writing in the workplace by discussing practical insights and then moving to hands-on experience. The second will explore the usefulness (and uselessness) of AI in the context of academic writing. This section will also focus on helping participants better understand their writing process within the context of language learning.

Participants will be expected to complete a task between the first and the second session.

Instructor: Danielle Kopf-Giammanco is a coordinator and co-founder of the Writing Center at Saarland University. She has been teaching English writing at UdS since 2017 and through the center works with the Landesintitut für Pädagogik un Medien in the Saarland. She frequently offers workshops on academic writing, how to plan research projects, and professional correspondence for various institutions and departments at UdS. While all of her current degrees are in history, Danielle is currently a PhD student in North American Literary and Cultural Studies. Her dissertation is focused on true crime television in the late twentieth century.
