This course is part of the Sprachpraxis suite of language courses but is listed under Fachdidaktik as that is where students receive their credits. For that reason, it is for Lehramt/Wipäd students only. It is a merger of the two former LCIII courses (Vocabulary/Grammar) and aims to help students develop their own understanding of these two cornerstones of language, as well as consider how they as future teachers might approach the task of teaching vocabulary and grammar. Taking the view that language is a holistic concept that cannot be divided into arbitrary concepts such as ‘vocabulary’ and ‘grammar’, the course aims to practise what it preaches, and the emphasis is on students learning by doing.
NB: The Tuesday course takes a blended-learning format, comprising a combination of guided self-study modules (on the university’s e-learning platform Moodle) and in-person classroom sessions.
If you are in the 2010, 2012 or 2016 STO you will have an exam at the end of LCIV which covers both LCIII and LCIV. By the time you take this Language and Use II (Advanced) exam you are expected to be very proficient (level C2+ of the CEFR) in English. It is therefore highly recommended that you take LCIII (and LCIV) as late as possible in your studies.
