This course introduces the basic terms of language typology, i.e. the study of contrasts and commonalities between languages. Students will learn about the contrasts and commonalities between English and German at different levels of the linguistic system (morphology, syntax. semantics) as well as their instantiation in texts and translations. Knowledge about the contrastive typology of English and German is useful for language competence in the L2 (English) and provides the necessary basis for translation.
