Students enrolled in this class will get to engage in current central issues in pragmatics and its interfaces. This involves theoretical, experimental, and corpus-based studies on issues such as presuppositions and not-at-issue content, different types of implicatures, focus and others. In order to refresh introductory knowledge and have a clear understanding of the concepts used, participants are strongly encouraged to have read B. Birner’s Introduction to Pragmatics before the beginning of class. |
