Intercultural Competence represents one of the key competencies for a successful career entry in institutions, organizations, companies and in the field of research and teaching. Cultural differences and characteristics can be an obstacle or a benefit to successful cooperation, for example regarding international research groups.
This workshop will take a closer look at the basics of intercultural competence as a key competence. Drawing on the classics (Hall, Hofstede, Trompenaars), as well as current and new approaches (Bolten, Müller-Jacquier), we will obtain an overview of the theoretical and practical aspects of intercultural competence regarding personal and organizational interaction. Themes will also include critical reflections of organizational behavior and intercultural psychology (self-perception and the perception by others, culture shock, …). The latter will be the basis for intercultural activities to practice successful interaction and cooperation. With the help of case studies and practical exercises (research-based learning, group work, simulation games,…) content will be examined in depth and reflected through an application-oriented approach.
Please note that this workshop is not a language course. For more information about English language courses at Saarland University, please consult the website of Saarland University's language center: https://www.szsb.uni-saarland.de
