Present? Tense :-(
Future? Perfect :-)
The aim of the course is to help you understand the English verb. Rather than memorizing lists of uses for the tenses and exceptions to rules, you will be guided towards an intimate understanding of the central meaning of tense and aspect, voice (active/passive), and modal verbs. The weekly sessions will include explanations on
- the core meaning of past, perfect and progressive.
- why the so-called exceptions to rules aren’t exceptions at all.
- the similarities between tenses.
- the meanings and uses of modal verbs.
- the difference in use between the active and passive voice.
In the sessions we will go through a number of tasks which involve decision-making to encourage language awareness. You will also be required to put into practice what you have learnt in the sessions, for example by creating your own gap-fill exercises. |
