Due to higher requirements regarding flexibility, innovation and third party funding, project work becomes more and more important in all sectors of the economy and regarding all scopes of duties in the academic world. Therefore, project management as an instrument of planning, governance and monitoring is increasingly seen as a core competency. As a growing number of developments and procedures are organized on a project base and in an at least partly inter-divisional or interdisciplinary way, they demand specific management skills. Therefore, project management plays a significant role in today’s working world in general and in the field of science and university management in particular.
This workshop will take a closer look at the basic project management methods and tools as well as the different stages and roles of projects. Drawing on the classics, we will also obtain an overview of aspects which contribute to a successful implementation and the specific challenges of project management. With the help of case studies and practical exercises the content will be examined in depth and reflected through an application-oriented approach.
Workshop Facilitator: Dr. Thomas Schmidtgall is a Research Associate at the Center for Key Competencies and University Didactics at Saarland University where he teaches and coordinates a wide range of key competencies. He has also various working experience in teaching international students as well as in international projects.
