Presenting one’s scientific work in English not only requires practice, but also demands special language skills and rhetorical knowledge. Especially for people who are not native speakers this can be a real challenge. Important aspects such as introducing yourself, presenting the agenda, making transitions in between the major parts of your presentation, etc. are often the subject of cultural and conventional characteristics.
The workshop will give you the chance to improve your presentation skills in English, to develop your personal ability to reach your international audience and to transport your message(s) in an adequate way. Tips such as rhetorical techniques, idiomatic expressions, strategies for effective presentations will be equally important as managing intercultural situations and how to deal with difficult situations.

Workshop Facilitator: Dr. Thomas Schmidtgall is a Research Associate at the Center for Key Competencies and University Didactics at Saarland University where he coordinates the section "Europe and Intercultural Communication". He is also the deputy head of the Key Competencies Program of Saarland University. He holds a PhD in cultural studies and has a special expertise in the field of intercultural communication (French-speaking, English-speaking and Spanish- speaking cultures). He has also various working experience in international projects.
