Games and Gamification have been integrating into the field of workforce management.
The increased availability and access to technology has allowed organizations to implement these and similar approaches (e.g., simulations, virtual reality) into their processes. Games and gamification are commonly used in training and assessment solutions, but have been integrated in other ways by organizations (e.g., wellness programs).
Games and gamification appeal to organizations because they present positive alternatives to some drawbacks that traditional approaches may present (e.g., virtual access can reduce travel costs and improve flexibility for scheduling, interactivity with the materials that may be perceived as engaging or enjoyable).
In this course, we will explore the theory, research, and practice of games and gamification in the workplace. We will review other technology-mediated solutions (e.g., simulation, virtual reality) and examine how they are related to games and gamification. We will further look at the research and context of workplace behavior and how this has facilitated the rise in popularity of these approaches to workplace management. |
