The course "Joining or Leaving the EU – Consequences for European Integration " aims to give participants an overview of the legal and political background for European Integration in the context of the European Enlargement Policy but also addressing the possibility to withdraw as a member. Firstly, the course will set some basis and explain the legal foundations and principles and history of European External Policy as well as the instruments and procedures (incl. the European External Action Service). Afterwards, we will focus on the EU enlargement policy addressing the countries of the Western Balkans and Turkey as well as the possibility of withdrawal of Art. 50 TEU. In three sessions, we will do some country case-studies examining the political, societal and economical consequences with (group) presentations by the participants. In these sessions, we will welcome some experts from these countries online who will give a more insight view into the current situation. In the final session, we will discuss future options and models for (gradual) European Integration. |
