This seminar is going to give you an overview about current theories of European Integration. We are going to read through the widely acclaimed textbook European Integration Theory (edited by Antje Wiener, Tanja A. Börzel, and Thomas Risse), which gives you insights on current debates and topical developments around European integration. In doing so, you will get a better theoretical understand of such major developments as the migration crisis and the euro crisis and learn about the developments, achievements, and problems of each theory, by understanding how they explain or fail to explain current issues in European integration. The class ends with a term paper that tries to explain the actions of the EU during the Covid crisis or the Ukraine war in light of two theories that you have learned about during the class. |
