This is a how-to-introduction for working with oral stories—something of value later on in working with English-learners and in the public domain of advertising, consulting and the like. Building on general introductory linguistic courses, we’ll work with simple stories, learn to analyse them and try to refine our skills with a story that you will be eliciting from your peers in the second half of the semester.
In order to obtain course credit, two introductory texts are to be read before Block I and a transcription of your own story has to be put together before Block II. Finally, the work in progress will be presented at the time of Block III (January), resulting in a term paper on the project by the end of the semester. More information will be available on the English Linguistics homepage.
Students who would like to participate in the seminar should register via Clix.
