Learning goal of this HS is to gain expertise in analyzing oral narratives, with an increasing emphasis on the visual cues during the telling (body language). We will begin working with transcripts from wordless picture books; from here turn to the analysis of brief ’personal stories’ elicited from your peers, ending with visual stories taken from the web.
In order to obtain course credit, each student must hand in some brief assignments before Block I and Block II, and an oral presentation of the work in progress (January), resulting in a term paper on a chosen project on a visual clip (in which a story is told).
More information will be available on the English Linguistics homepage.
Students who would like to participate in the seminar should register via Clix.
