Plays basically reflect on oral communication in a (socio) cultural context. In this course we will explore how the cultural implications influence the use of language and how spoken language thereby influences our cross-cultural understanding and what may help avoid cultural misunderstanding in the way we use the spoken word in everyday communication. Focusing on the diversity in cultural awareness – present day plays may provide access to how the respective culture and its spoken language condition each other. The play will be one staged in London within the year – guaranteeing new topical aspects. Rehearsed reading will also enhance better reading /understanding of a playtext. Presence in the first session is required. Maximum number of participants – 16. |
