Course Description
This course is about transcribing spoken data, which is essential when working with oral discourse. We will focus on different transcription practises, annotation systems, spoken language features and spoken corpora in general. Our data will mostly come from CASE, the Corpus of Academic Spoken English (Diemer et al. forthcoming), a large collection of Skype call recordings between English students from various countries. This course is practice-oriented, which means that you will have the chance to gain hands-on experience in transcribing. We will work together on your transcripts already during the semester, to ensure a continuous development of your work in progress. Please note that you will need a computer/laptop for the transcriptions.
