A recently popular question in epistemology is what is valuable about knowledge. What, if anything, does knowledge add to the value of mere true belief? Is it truth rather than knowledge that is the fundamental epistemic value? If so, are there some truths that are more valuable, epistemically speaking, than others? A related issue is whether instead of taking knowledge as the valuable epistemic standing, we had better investigate other epistemic standings of value such as understanding or wisdom. In addition to these questions, we will investigate how particular views such as reliabilism or virtue epistemology fare with respect to epistemic value. We will also take a look at how questions of value relate to the nature of knowledge.
